Today is my last day of summer, and tomorrow I go back to teaching. Honestly, I’m slightly anxious, and I wish summer could last forever.
But then I found this awesome Tolkien quote:
“The greatest adventure is what lies ahead.” – J.R.R. Tolkien
I love it! Everyday is a new opportunity for adventure, relationship, trying cool things, learning and growing. And suddenly, I remember all the fantastic ideas I have for this upcoming school year.
This summer, I took a six week course on “secondary education teaching methods” (that’s a mouth-full), and I learned a ton. The most valuable take-away was that I want my classroom to be student-centered, rather than teacher-centered. I want to use my creativity and imagination to engage students with projects that will inspire them to learn and grow as people. How fun is that?!
So, I’m going to dive into the adventure ahead, and to take my students on the journey with me. And, I’m going to post that Tolkien quote up in my classroom, nice and big.
me, too. wonderful quote! thanks for sharing.

I love student-centered approach! The main idea is not to teach but to inspire them to learn.
